The Journey Home

Sep 13
1 min read

What is this journey I'm taking?

Where will I find its end?

For as far as my mind remembers,

Picking up, putting down, again.

I know not my destination

Like a pendulum my heart does swing

From rapturous anticipation

To despair of what morning will bring.

Haunted by paths wrongly taken

Fear is the voice in my head

Doubt clouds all my confessions

Endless shadows wherever I tread.

Dreams have ceased to desert me

Time has no understanding to lend

I cannot recognize the outcome.

Where will this journey end?

If only someone could teach me

What they know from passing this way

They would whisper the paths old secrets

And peace would fill my day.

Then would I sing the songs of sparrows

I would dance as the angels dance

For knowledge shall drive out all shadows

And wisdom will strengthen my pace.

Come walk with me, sojourner

For you've walked this road before.

You can share the lessons taught you,

And you'll make my heart to soar.

For there are those that you've encountered

On this long journey home

Who walked with you one morning

Having walked this road before.
